Our goal is simple: to follow the instructions of Jesus Christ and go and make disciples. Remember, a quality disciple makes up a quality life. The Discipled Life: We need to study it, practice it, and teach it. "For Ezra had set his heart TO STUDY the Law of the Lord, and TO DO IT and TO TEACH his statutes and rules in Israel." Ezra 7:10

Psalms of Discipleship. Principle #34 (Worship) October 27, 2013
Hello
dear friends! We are bombarded every day with messages that hinder our
need to have a closer relationship with Jesus. Often these competing
messages can be very subtle and yet cause severe damage to our spiritual
growth.
In today's Psalms of Discipleship the Psalmist
reminds us of how great our God really is. He is the LORD Most High over
all the earth. And because of grace, He is our Lord.
Learning to worship Him,
Denny
Psalms of Discipleship—Principle #34
Life Principles For Those Who Choose To Follow Jesus And Live The Discipled Life
Key Scripture: 9 For Thou art the LORD Most High over all the earth; Thou art exalted far above all gods. Psalm 97:9
Core Value: Worship
We live in a time where there is intense competition for our attention.
Those who are experts in marketing research claim that we are exposed
to hundreds and even thousands of visual and audio messages every day.
The “winner” in this marketing blast is the one who persuades us to use
their product or services. The influence of intentional marketing works.
In a similar way, the influence of false gods, idols, works
all to well. The false gods broadcast messages of consumerism, pride,
greed, jealousy, and wrong priorities, (just to name a few). They send
thousands of unsolicited messages our way every day. “Pick me. Choose
me. Follow me. Desire me . . . not Him.” For the disciple of Jesus, we
must resist their message. Our call, our confession must be “for You are
the LORD Most High over all the earth. You are exalted far above all
gods, even our own idols.”
May we learn to tune out the wrong messages and carefully listen to the message of His great love for us and follow Him.
Principle #34 & Personal Application: Quality disciples bend their knee to the LORD Most High.
• We confess that Jesus is the LORD
• We confess that Jesus is the LORD Most High over all the earth
• We confess that Jesus is the LORD, far exalted above all gods
Reflect & Respond: Some Really Good Questions To Ponder…
When I fix my eyes upon Jesus I am more prone to worship Him. What can I worship and praise Him for today?
What does it mean in my life for the LORD Most High to be exalted far
above all gods? What “gods” in life seek to compete against Him for my
love and devotion?
Prayer:
Lord Jesus, It is my confession
that You are the LORD Most High over all the earth, even the false gods
who seek to draw my love and affection away from You. May my worship be
upon You and upon You alone.

Psalms of Discipleship. Principle #33 (Worship) October 5, 2013
Hello my dear friends!
Today's Psalms of Discipleship declare the greatness of our God. The
heavens declare His righteousness. Everyone on earth has seen His glory
and everyone is expected to worship Him only. A Great God requires a
great worship.
Learning to worship Jesus greatly,
Denny
Psalms of Discipleship—Principle #33
Life Principles For Those Who Choose To Follow Jesus And Live The Discipled Life
Key Scripture: 6 The heavens declare His righteousness, And all the
peoples have seen His glory. 7 Let all those be ashamed who serve graven
images, Who boast themselves of idols; Worship Him, all you gods. Psalm
97:6-7
Core Value: Worship
We live in a world where
“tolerance” has become the new agenda, the new world-view. In the
Christian life there are some negotiables and there are some
non-negotiables.
It is true that a disciple of Jesus needs to
be a person of tolerance on non-moral issues such as the mode of baptism
(immersion vs. sprinkling). However, there is no room for any kind of
tolerance when it comes to Who is deserving of our worship. It is Jesus
and Jesus only.
He will not tolerate a divided heart.
Principle #33 & Personal Application: Quality disciples align themselves with those who worship the One True God
• The heavens declare His righteousness. So do we
• All the people have seen his glory, including us
• Everyone must worship Him and Him alone. So must we
Reflect & Respond: Some Really Good Questions To Ponder…
What comes to my mind when I think about declaring His righteousness?
What are some of the idols in my life that seek to keep God off of the throne of my heart?
Prayer:
Lord Jesus, may I always give You glory as I tell others of Your
righteousness. May my heart always be devoted to You and to You alone.

Psalms of Discipleship. Principle #32 (Worship). September 22, 2013
Hello
my dear friends! One of the distinguishing marks of the disciple of
Jesus is a heart that is set apart to worship God. We want our way,
often. When we want His, we are saying to Him: "Take my heart all of it
and have Your way with me."
Because He reigns over all, He reigns over our heart too.
Learning to bend my will to His,
Denny
Psalms of Discipleship—Principle #32
Life Principles For Those Who Choose To Follow Jesus And Live The Discipled Life
Key Scripture: The LORD reigns; let the earth rejoice; Let the many islands be glad. Psalm 97:1
Core Value: Worship
God is in charge, and we are not. This is a true statement, but we
often act in ways that seek to keep us in control. How do you know if
you have a heart of worship? The true heart of worship is an obedient
heart, a surrendered heart, a heart that is completely His.
Principle #32 & Personal Application: Quality disciples worship a
God who transcends all racial, cultural and political boundaries.
• Jesus is Lord of every person, no matter the color of one’s own skin
• Jesus is Lord of every culture, no matter the preference we choose
• Jesus is Lord of every nation, no matter where in the world it might be
• Jesus is Lord of all
Reflect & Respond: Some Really Good Questions To Ponder…
What does it mean for me to have the Lord reign over my life?
Have I ever worshiped with another believer who was “different” than me?
What can I learn from other members of the body of Christ that will enhance my worship of God?
Prayer:
Lord Jesus, I am thankful that You reign. You reign over people from
every race. You reign over every culture. You reign over every tribe and
nation. You reign over me.

Psalms of Discipleship. Principle #31 (Evangelism) September 7, 2013
Hello
my dear friends! In this Psalms of Discipleship we are reminded of the
honor it is to be His ambassador, a representative of His Kingdom. In
gaining a proper view of Who He is, we are able to represent Him well to
those who have yet to experience His love and great salvation.
Enjoying His love and passing it on,
Denny
Psalms of Discipleship—Principle #31
Life Principles For Those Who Choose To Follow Jesus And Live The Discipled Life
Key Scripture: 9 Worship the LORD in holy attire; Tremble before Him,
all the earth. 10 Say among the nations, " The LORD reigns; Indeed, the
world is firmly established, it will not be moved; He will judge the
peoples with equity." Psalm 96:9-10
Core Value: Evangelism
One of the great joys and privileges of being a follower of Jesus is
the opportunity to partner with Him. The King has given to us His
Kingdom assignment: to worship Him, to give Him all glory, and to make
disciples of Jesus who make disciples for Him.
He has given
for us all of the resources we need to serve Him well. He has given us
His grace and power. He has given us His love. He has given us the
Gospel. He has given us Himself. He has given His very best. So must we.
Principle #31 & Personal Application: Quality disciples proclaim the Lord’s love, power and glory to the nations.
• When we share the Lord we are to give Him worship
• When we share the Lord we are to tell others of His great power
• When we share the Lord we are to testify of His righteous judgment
Reflect & Respond: Some Really Good Questions To Ponder…
What does it mean when I worship the Lord in holy attire?
In what way does my view of God impact the way I share about Him to the lost?
Prayer:
Lord Jesus, as I live in Your presence I am charged to do at least
three things: I will worship You in holy attire; I will tremble before
You and I will say to the nations that You reign. May I be used by You
to tell others of Your great love, power, and glory.

Psalms of Discipleship. Principle #30 (Worship). August 31, 2013
Hello my dear friends!
In this week's Psalms of Discipleship we are going to learn how to give
thanks and why it is good for us to give thanks to the Lord. Its
another great reminder of all He has done for us.
Learning with you,
Denny
Psalms of Discipleship—Principle #30
Life Principles For Those Who Choose To Follow Jesus And Live The Discipled Life
Key Scripture: 7 Ascribe to the LORD, O families of the peoples,
Ascribe to the LORD glory and strength. 8 Ascribe to the LORD the glory
of His name; Bring an offering, and come into His courts. Psalm 96:7-8
Core Value: Worship
Throughout the Psalms the disciple of Jesus is exhorted to give thanks
(Ps. 44:8; 57:9; 75:1; 100:4, etc.). Have you ever considered why? It is
good to give thanks to the Lord because it reminds us of all He has
done for us. It is good to give thanks because it moves our mentality of
independence from the Lord to dependence upon the Lord. It is good to
give thanks because it fills our hearts with praise and adoration of
Him.
Principle #30 & Personal Application: Quality
disciples, by faith and through grace, give their lives to the Lord as
an act of worship.
• We give our worship to the Lord together
• We give our acknowledgement to the Lord that He is deserving of all glory and strength
• We give to the Lord the glory of His name
• We bring an offering (ourselves) as we enter His gates with thanksgiving and His courts with praise (Psalm 100:4)
Reflect & Respond: Some Really Good Questions To Ponder…
What kind of worship environment helps me to focus upon the Lord?
When I consider giving the Lord glory and strength, what am I doing?
What are some of the Names of God that have special meaning to me?
Prayer:
Lord Jesus, thank You for allowing me to return to You what belongs to
You: my praise and worship of You and Your glorious name. May I always
ascribe to You all glory and strength. May I always be a part of a
community of worshipers who praise and glorify You.

Psalms of Discipleship (Worship) Principle #29. August 18, 2013
Hello
my dear friends. Much love to you. Today's Psalms of Discipleship
reminds us of the great value of making good choices to worship. To
create a lifestyle of worship it requires a daily decision to take the
right path.
On the path with you,
Denny
Psalms of Discipleship—Principle #29
Life Principles For Those Who Choose To Follow Jesus And Live The Discipled Life
Key Scripture: 4 For great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised; He
is to be feared above all gods. 5 For all the gods of the peoples are
idols, But the LORD made the heavens. Psalm 96:4-5
Core Value: Worship
Life is filled with choices. Sometimes we make good ones and sometimes
we experience the consequences of bad decisions. For the disciple of
Jesus it is critically important to make good choices when it comes to
our worship of Him. The best way to cultivate a lifestyle of worship is
to be consistent. It is best done when we make daily habits (or choices)
to worship God. A life filled good choices makes all the difference in
the world.
Poet Robert Frost said it well:
I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.
Principle #29 & Personal Application: Quality disciples love a great God with a great worship.
• We love a great God and greatly praise Him
• We love a great God who is greater than any idol in our life
• We love a great God who is a great and mighty Creator
Reflect & Respond: Some Really Good Questions To Ponder…
In what ways does the Lord make Himself great in my life?
Are there any idols in my heart that hinder my worship of the Lord?
Prayer:
Lord Jesus, I love, worship, and adore You. You are a Great God and
deserve my greatest praise. There is no one like You. May my heart
always be filled with fidelity for You. May no idol, within or outside
of me, ever steal my devotion for You.

Psalms of Discipleship. Principle #28 (Worship) August 11, 2013
Hello
my dear friends.
Today's Psalms of Discipleship reminds of us the sharp
contrast between being entertained by others and entertaining the Lord.
May we all learn the importance of presenting our lives to an audience
of One.
Learning with you,
Psalms of Discipleship—Principle #28
Life Principles For Those Who Choose To Follow Jesus And Live The Discipled Life
Key Scripture: 1 Sing to the LORD a new song; Sing to the LORD, all the
earth. 2 Sing to the LORD, bless His name; Proclaim good tidings of His
salvation from day to day. 3 Tell of His glory among the nations, His
wonderful deeds among all the peoples. Psalm 96:1-3
Core Value: Worship
We live in an entertainment culture. We want to be entertained. This,
in itself, is not necessarily a bad thing. Entertainment can fill our
emotional tanks. The problem is when this legitimate activity bleeds
into our worship of God. Instead of being entertained by others, we need
to entertain the Lord. He needs to be the focal point in our concert of
One.
Here is the personal inventory question regarding
worship each disciple must ponder: do I want Jesus and others to
entertain me or do I want to entertain Him?
Principle #28 &
Personal Application: Quality disciples sing to the Lord as they daily
proclaim of His great salvation and tell of His glory and wonderful
deeds to everyone.
• We worship when we sing to the Lord and bless His name
• We worship when we proclaim good tidings of His great salvation every day
• We worship when we tell of His glory among the nations
• We worship when we tell of His wonderful deeds to everyone
Reflect & Respond: Some Really Good Questions To Ponder…
Biblical worship is an energetic, enthusiastic, engaged lifestyle. What
kind of worship environment is most conducive to my worship of God?
(For example, is it solitude; with a large group; lots of music;
outdoors; indoors, etc.)
What kinds of thoughts fill my heart when I am worshipping the Lord?
Prayer:
Lord Jesus, I sing to You a new song. I praise You for I do not sing
alone. There are many others who are filling the earth with praise songs
for You. As I sing, I bless Your holy Name and proclaim the good
tidings of Your great salvation every day. By faith, I will tell
everyone I know about Your glory and the great deeds You have done for
me.

Psalms of Discipleship. Principle #27 (Worship). August 3, 2013
Hello my dear friends,
Worship of the Lord is one of the greatest activities granted to us by
Him. Worship is far more than a bland ritual performed out of a
religious duty. Biblical worship is grace-driven and based upon a love
relationship with Jesus. The Psalmist offers the invitation to worship.
He invites us to come.
Coming with you,
Denny
Psalms of Discipleship—Principle #27
Life Principles For Those Who Choose To Follow Jesus And Live The Discipled Life
Key Scripture: 6 Come, let us worship and bow down; Let us kneel before
the LORD our Maker. 7 For He is our God, And we are the people of His
pasture, and the sheep of His hand. Psalm 95:6-7
Core Value: Worship
Worship is more than singing a song and beating a tambourine. Worship
is more than just showing up at a specific location on a specific day at
a specific time with specific people going through specific rituals.
Worship is simply bowing one’s will to the will of God while at home, at
work, or even at church. Worship is a grace-driven activity that
enhances the spiritual growth of the Quality Disciple.
Is your
experience a ritualistic, works-driving worship or are you responding to
His irresistible grace that draws you into His presence? His invitation
to you and to me is one of grace: to come and worship Him.
Principle #27 & Personal Application: Quality disciples follow the
lead of the Great Shepherd into an intimate worship experience.
• The invitation is to come and worship
• The invitation is to come in humility
• The invitation is to come before the Lord our Maker
• The invitation is to lead to this great confession: He is our God and we belong to Him
Reflect & Respond: Some Really Good Questions To Ponder…
What is my “worship style?” In other words, in what ways do I worship the Lord?
What is my greatest challenge that keeps me from cultivating a habit of worship?
Prayer:
Lord Jesus, I gratefully accept Your offer to come and worship You. I
come with a posture of humility as I bow down my knee and my will to
You. I confess that You are my Maker and my God. I look to You as the
Shepherd of my soul.

Psalms of Discipleship. Principle #26 (Worship & Community). July 22, 2013
Hello
my dear friends! Today's Psalms of Discipleship reminds us of the great
joy that awaits the believer if we seek to worship Him instead of
seeking to entertain ourselves. May we be a true worshiper today.
Learning with you,
Denny
Psalms of Discipleship—Principle #26
Life Principles For Those Who Choose To Follow Jesus And Live The Discipled Life
Key Scripture: 1 O come, let us sing for joy to the LORD, Let us shout
joyfully to the rock of our salvation. 2 Let us come before His presence
with thanksgiving, Let us shout joyfully to Him with psalms. 3 For the
LORD is a great God And a great King above all gods, Psalm 95:1-3
Core Value: Worship and Community
There is a stark contrast between corporate worship and corporate
entertainment. In corporate entertainment, the focus is upon the ones
who are entertaining and the ones who are being entertained. As a
result, men applaud men and steal from God’s glory. This kind of
corporate entertainment happens every Sunday and it is passed off as
“corporate worship.”
On the other hand, authentic corporate
worship sets the focus upon the Lord and upon Him alone. Corporate
worship that is set upon Christ projects all glory and praise unto Him.
Like a sweet aroma, worship offered in His name ascends and magnifies
His glory. Christ-centered corporate worship fills the hearts of true
worshipers with great joy. Far too many of us settle for the goose bumps
of corporate entertainment instead of embracing the kind of joy that
explodes within our heart when we worship Him together.
Principle #26 & Personal Application: Quality disciples sing for joy
to the Lord because the Lord is a great God and a great King.
• A thankful heart is a singing heart that offers worship to the Lord
• A worshipful heart is a shouting heart that is expresses joy to the rock of our salvation
• A humble heart is an adoring heart that comes into His presence with thanksgiving
• A Word-centered heart is a marinated heart that is filled with the truths of Scripture
• A transformed heart is a focused heart that gives Jesus His rightful place as a great God and a great King
Reflect & Respond: Some Really Good Questions To Ponder…
When I begin to sing out to the Lord in worship, what kinds of emotions tend to fill my heart?
Based upon this Psalm, what is my responsibility in worship of Him?
Prayer:
Lord Jesus, may I always seek to worship You in a way that pleases
You. By faith, I sing for joy to You. I shout joyfully to the rock of my
salvation. By grace, I come into Your presence with thanksgiving. May
You fill my heart with Your Word so I may offer Your Word back to You as
a offering of worship to You. I make this commitment to You: May I live
my life in a way that best glorifies You as a great God and great
King.

Psalms of Discipleship. Principle #25 (Grace). July 13, 2013
Hello my dear friends,
Today's Psalms of Discipleship gives comfort to the person who feels
surrounded by his or her enemies. Some disciples of Jesus default to
fear when the battle is near. Other disciples follow the example of the
Psalmist and trust in the Lord.
Learning with you,
Denny
Psalms of Discipleship—Principle #25
Life Principles For Those Who Choose To Follow Jesus And Live The Discipled Life
Key Scripture: 16 Who will stand up for me against evildoers? Who will
take his stand for me against those who do wickedness? 17 If the LORD
had not been my help, My soul would soon have dwelt in the abode of
silence. 18 If I should say, "My foot has slipped," Your lovingkindness,
O LORD, will hold me up. 19 When my anxious thoughts multiply within
me, Your consolations delight my soul. Psalm 94:16-19
Core Value: Grace
Have you ever felt you were surrounded by someone or something that was
opposing you at every turn? Have you ever experienced the feeling of
being outnumbered by your foes? Have you ever considered throwing up the
white flag of surrender during the heat of battle and just giving up?
One of the great struggles the disciple of Jesus faces is the struggle
of confrontation. Sometimes it can be demonic. Sometimes, the battle
lies within. And there are other times where the opposition comes in the
form of other people, perhaps even from other Christians.
It
is important to note the strategy the Psalmist took. First, he posed the
logical question: “Who will stand up for me?” Second, he offers the
best solution to his circumstances: He assigns the credit (the glory) to
the One who has a history of delivering him and comforting him.
What lesson can we learn from his example? It is okay to raise the
question of “who will stand up for me?” Perhaps the enemy is Satan, or
the thoughts within, or even in the appearance of another person. It is
also okay to confess that Jesus is our defense.
Principle #25
& Personal Application: Quality disciples look to the Lord for help
when enemies seek to overwhelm and destroy.
• We can take comfort in the fact that the Lord will stand up for us against evildoers
• We can take comfort in the fact that the Lord is our help
• We can take comfort in the fact that the Lord’s lovingkindness (mercy) will hold us up
• We can take comfort in the fact that the Lord will console us and comfort our soul.
Reflect & Respond: Some Really Good Questions To Ponder…
How does the grace of God help me not be overcome by worry and anxiety?
Because the Lord has given me grace, what comfort does He offer me when my “foot has slipped?”
Prayer:
Lord Jesus, I am grateful that You will stand up for me against
evildoers who do evil things to me. I am thankful for Your presence in
my life. Without Your presence I would be lost and forsaken forever. And
when I do stumble and fall, You are there to pick me up and pour out
Your mercy upon me. And just when I cling the edge of despair, You are
there to comfort me and delight my soul.

pounding waves. 4 More than the sounds of many waters, Than the mighty
breakers of the sea, The LORD on high is mighty. 5 Your testimonies are
fully confirmed; Holiness befits Your house, O LORD, forevermore. Psalm
93:1-5
Core Value: Worship
“Is God bigger than my dreams?” “Will I ever figure out my place in this world?”
These are the kinds of questions I often default to when life is not
going the way I have intended. My plans have gone from Plan A to Plan B
to a downward spiral of Plan Z and beyond. It is when nothing is going
my way that I need to step back and then lean forward and embrace the
character of God. He is in control. He reigns. He is Lord . . . and I am
not.
Feeling stuck in your career? Feeling out of control in
your personal life? Become paralyzed in your spiritual life? Like the
Psalmist, take a closer look to the Lord who reigns. Gaze into His Word
and worship Him now. A focused worship of God will produce a clearer
path to walk, a path where His Spirit leads us to go.
Principle
#24 & Personal Application: Quality disciples lift up the name of
the Lord and praise Him for His great and awesome power.
• When we worship God we acknowledge that the Lord reigns and is clothed with majesty
• When we worship God we acknowledge that the Lord has clothed Himself with strength
• When we worship God we acknowledge that the Lord’s throne of rule is firmly established
• When we worship God we acknowledge that even the waters of the sea testify of His majesty
• When we worship God we acknowledge that the Lord is a holy and awesome God
Reflect & Respond: Some Really Good Questions To Ponder…
Is there anything “trite” in my approach to God when I typically pray?
In other words, do I treat Him like some cosmic bellhop whose sole
purpose is to run and fetch for me when I pray OR do I approach His
throne with a reverent fear and respect?
What benefit is there to me when I begin to pray God’s Word back to Him? (Using this psalm as an example)
Prayer:
Lord Jesus, there is no one like You. You reign and are clothed in
majesty. You had no beginning and You have no end. You are from
everlasting. I join in with Your creation and worship Your holy and
great name.

Psalms of Discipleship. Principle #23 (Worship) June 27, 2013
Hello
my dear friends! Have you ever wondered why it is good to give thanks
to the Lord? Today's Psalms of Discipleship gives us a peek into the
heart of the Psalmist and what he discovered to be true: thanksgiving
leads to an even deeper worship experience with the Lord.
Learning to do what is good,
Denny
Psalms of Discipleship—Principle #23
Life Principles For Those Who Choose To Follow Jesus And Live The Discipled Life
Key Scripture: 1 It is good to give thanks to the LORD And to sing
praises to Your name, O Most High; 2 To declare Your lovingkindness in
the morning And Your faithfulness by night, 3 With the ten-stringed lute
and with the harp, With resounding music upon the lyre. 4 For You, O
LORD, have made me glad by what You have done, I will sing for joy at
the works of Your hands. 5 How great are Your works, O LORD! Your
thoughts are very deep. Psalm 92:1-5
Core Value: Worship
“It is good” is one of God’s most favorite expressions. When He created
the heavens and the earth, He remarked “it is good.” When he made the
birds of the air, the fish of the sea, and every animal, he said, “it is
good.” And after Had finished creating His prize possession, a man and a
women, He looked at all of His creation and declared it to be “very
good.”
The Bible teaches us that God is good. The Word of God
also encourages us to respond to His goodness by doing good things. For
example, it is good to give thanks to the Lord and to sing praises to
His name. The Psalmist did a good thing when he began to give thanks and
worship the Lord. Why is it a good thing to do? Because when we do He
receives the glory and we receive the good, an even deeper intimacy with
Him.
Principle #23 & Personal Application: Quality
disciples are assertive in their thanksgiving to the Lord all day long
for the things He has done.
• We give thanks to the Lord because it is a good thing to do
• We sing praises to the Name that is above any other
• We declare His lovingkindness in the morning and His faithfulness by night
• We are made glad by the marvelous things He has done, is doing, and will do for us
• We are in awe of His great works and His unfathomable thoughts
Reflect & Respond: Some Really Good Questions To Ponder…
What kinds of spiritual disciplines do I practice (for example:
worship, prayer, Bible reading, serving, fasting, meditation, solitude,
etc.) that help me focus upon the Lord and His greatness?
Do I ever pray aloud? How does/how would praying aloud help me focus upon the Lord?
Prayer:
Lord Jesus, it is good to give thanks to You and to sing Your praises
to Your name. May I make it a regular habit to declare Your
lovingkindness (mercy) in the morning and then declare Your faithfulness
to me after a long day. By Your love and grace You have made me glad by
what You have done for me and for all who place their trust in You.

Psalms of Discipleship. Principle #22 (Prayer). June 16, 2013
Hello
my dear friends! Today's Psalms of Discipleship reveals the heart of
our Great God. He does care, really care, for you and for me. It is a
Psalm of deliverance, a Psalm of what it means to have an intimate
relationship with Jesus, a Psalm of the power of prayer, and a Psalm of
promise and hope.
A witness to His great promises,
Denny
Psalms of Discipleship—Principle #22
Life Principles For Those Who Choose To Follow Jesus And Live The Discipled Life
Key Scripture: 14 "Because he has loved Me, therefore I will deliver
him; I will set him securely on high, because he has known My name. 15
"He will call upon Me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in
trouble; I will rescue him and honor him. 16 "With a long life I will
satisfy him And let him see My salvation." Psalm 91:14-16
Core Value: Prayer
This passage of Scripture is quite personal. In June of 1998, I had
this Psalm written on an index card and kept it in my shirt pocket,
often reflecting upon it throughout the day. On July 2, I had a massive
heart attack. During the aftermath, it was touch and go: either it was
going to be graduation day and I would finally meet Jesus face to face,
or He would extend my life on this earth. After my heart attack my wife
found the index card on my dresser and she began to claim the wonderful
promises mentioned in these verses. By no means are these promises a
“formula” for getting what we want. Instead, the promises of God are
based upon the relationship we have with Him, trusting Him for the
outcome that will bring Him the greatest glory.
In His mercy,
He delivered me. In His mercy, He answered and rescued me. In His mercy,
He has added almost 15 years to my life. In His mercy, He will be there
for you too.
Principle #22 & Personal Application: Quality disciples love and know the Lord and communicate with Him too.
• We pray because we love the Lord. Because we love the Lord, He desires to deliver us.
• We pray because we know His name. Because we know His name, He desires to set us securely on high.
• We pray because when we are in trouble we know that we can call upon
Him. Because we call upon Him, He will answer us and rescue us and honor
us.
• Because the Lord is our Shepherd, our Refuge, Our Mighty
God, He will satisfy us with a long life and allow us to see His
salvation.
Reflect & Respond: Some Really Good Questions To Ponder…
When I pray (especially when I am in trouble or burdened) do I do so
out of a heart of love and worship or is my motive to relieve my
discomfort?
There are many promises in this passage of Scripture for the disciple of Jesus. Which one resonates with me?
Prayer:
Lord Jesus, may I always have a heart that is full of love for You.
May I become fully acquainted with knowing Your name. Thank You for
delivering me from the things that are harmful to my walk with You.
Thank You for the provision of prayer where I can cry out to You and
receive Your protection. Thank You for showing me Your great Salvation.

Psalms of Discipleship we see an example of how our confession is so
important when we are surrounded by our enemies.

Psalms of Discipleship—Principle #21
Life Principles For Those Who Choose To Follow Jesus And Live The Discipled Life
Key Scripture: 1 He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High Will
abide in the shadow of the Almighty. 2 I will say to the LORD, "My
refuge and my fortress, My God, in whom I trust!" 3 For it is He who
delivers you from the snare of the trapper And from the deadly
pestilence. 4 He will cover you with His pinions, And under His wings
you may seek refuge; His faithfulness is a shield and bulwark. Psalm
91:1-4
Core Value: Prayer
Prayer offered up in the
name of Jesus is one of the believer’s most essential spiritual tools.
When you are surrounded by a host of your enemies, its important to make
sure you have a reliable connection to the Lord. Perhaps you may
remember these lyrics popularized by The Manhattan Transfer:

His help is only a call away.
I call upon the LORD, who is worthy to be praised, And I am saved from my enemies. Psalm 18:3
Principle #21 & Personal Application: Quality disciples experience the awesome wonder of praying to a powerful God.
• We experience His power as we dwell in the shelter of the Most High, abiding in the shadow of the Almighty (vs. 1)
• We experience His power as we confess to Him that He is our refuge and fortress (vs. 2)
• We experience His power as we trust in Him to deliver us and protect us (vs. 3-4)
Reflect & Respond: Some Really Good Questions To Ponder…
In a very practical way, what does it mean to dwell in the shelter of the Most High?
When trouble comes my way, how have I seen the Lord become my refuge and fortress?
Prayer:
Lord Jesus, it is by Your grace that I can dwell in the shelter of the
Most High. By grace, I can abide and live in the shadow of the
Almighty. By faith I can declare that You are my Refuge and my Fortress,
my God in whom I trust.

Psalms of Discipleship. Principle #20 (Grace). June 1, 2013
Hello
my dear friends! Are you living in the favor of God? Today's Psalms of
Discipleship describes a way of life that every disciple of Jesus
desires: to live in the FOG, in the Favor of God.
Because of amazing grace,
Denny
Psalms of Discipleship—Principle #20
Life Principles For Those Who Choose To Follow Jesus And Live The Discipled Life
Key Scripture: Let the favor of the Lord our God be upon us; And
confirm for us the work of our hands; Yes, confirm the work of our
hands. Psalm 90:17
Core Value: Grace
Years ago I was
on a flight from Northern California to the Philippines. As the plane
taxied down the runway, the pilot waited . . . and waited . . . and
waited for clearance from the tower to take off. On that night, he never
got permission to take off. Instead, he turned the plane around and
went back to the terminal. Why? Too much fog.
I recently
became aware of a term that caught my attention. “Living in the FOG.”
Living in the Favor Of God means that I am fully engaged in the grace of
God. Living in the favor of God means that I have discovered a way of
life where I am receiving far more than I deserve.
On that
night in Northern California, it was not safe to proceed because of the
fog. For the disciple of Jesus, living in the FOG is not only safe, but
also essential.
Principle #20 & Personal Application: Quality disciples delight in having the Lord’s favor and constant encouragement.
• It is because of grace that the favor of the Lord is upon us
• It is because of grace that the Lord will confirm the work of our hands
• It is because of grace that that we are affirmed and encouraged by Him
Reflect & Respond: Some Really Good Questions To Ponder…
As I examine my life, what specific examples can I recall where the favor of the Lord has been upon me?
In what areas of my life do I need some encouragement from the Lord (i.e., relationships, career, ministry, etc.)?
Prayer:
Lord Jesus, may the favor of the Lord my God be upon me. Thank You for Your constant encouragement as I live for You.

Psalms of Discipleship. Principle #19 (Worship). May 25, 2013
Hello
my dear friends! Every now and then we may face challenging
circumstances that seek to overwhelm us, even to the point of giving up.
Or even worse, convincing ourselves that our problems are far greater
than God's ability to fix them. We may never "believe" this but many of
us practice what we really believe.
Today's Psalms of Discipleship is a wonderful reminder of how great God really is . . . to me . . . and to you!
Overwhelmed by His great love,
Denny
Psalms of Discipleship—Principle #19
Life Principles For Those Who Choose To Follow Jesus And Live The Discipled Life
Key Scripture: 5 The heavens will praise Your wonders, O LORD; Your
faithfulness also in the assembly of the holy ones. 6 For who in the
skies is comparable to the LORD? Who among the sons of the mighty is
like the LORD, 7 A God greatly feared in the council of the holy ones,
And awesome above all those who are around Him? 8 O LORD God of hosts,
who is like You, O mighty LORD? Your faithfulness also surrounds You. 9
You rule the swelling of the sea; When its waves rise, You still them.
Psalm 89:5-9
Core Value: Worship
It is pretty safe to
say that if our problems begin to look bigger than our God we are well
on the way to spiritual defeat. We never intend to worship our problems,
do we? Or do we? In the rawest of terms, false worship occurs when
someone or something becomes greater than one’s focus upon God. One of
the best ways to keep our problems and faith challenges in the right
perspective is to set our eyes on the One who is great and greatly to be
praised.
This Gospel chorus sums it up very well:
Turn your eyes upon Jesus. Look full in His wonderful face. And the
things of earth will grow strangely dim in the light of His glory and
grace.
Principle #19 & Personal Application: Quality disciples have a high respect for a great and awesome God.
• A heart of worship will experience a God who is greater than anyone’s problems
• A heart of worship will experience a God who is greater than His creation
• A heart of worship will experience a God who is greater than anyone
Reflect & Respond: Some Really Good Questions To Ponder…
What steps do I need to take that will enhance my worship of the Lord?
The Lord is a high and mighty Savior who is awesome, great, and
faithful. What have I experienced in the past few weeks that has drawn
my heart closer to Him?
Prayer:
Lord Jesus, the heavens do
declare Your glory and praise. You are a faithful God who is always
faithful to me. May I always remember to keep my heart turned towards
You and worship You as a great and mighty Lord.

Psalms of Discipleship. Principle #18 (Evangelism). May 18, 2013
Hello
dear friends! Today's Psalms of Discipleship is a reminder of the power
behind your personal story. Jesus has touched your life in a profound
way. Are you telling somebody about it?
Redeemed, and I love to proclaim it,
Denny
Psalms of Discipleship—Principle #18
Life Principles For Those Who Choose To Follow Jesus And Live The Discipled Life
Key Scripture: I will sing of the lovingkindness of the LORD forever;
To all generations I will make known Your faithfulness with my mouth.
Psalm 89:1
Core Value: Evangelism
The best stories
are the stories that we have experienced. Everyone can recite the words
to their favorite poem or memorized prose, and even be expressive with
deep feeling. But there is a far greater power when we tell our stories
to others. As disciples of Jesus, we tell the story of our great
redemption. We tell the story of how Jesus changed our life. We share
with others of His great love for us.
This lyric from this classic hymn describes the power behind a personal story.
I love to tell the story of unseen things above, of Jesus and his glory, of Jesus and his love.
I love to tell the story, because I know 'tis true; it satisfies my longings as nothing else can do.
Refrain: I love to tell the story, 'twill be my theme in glory, to tell the old, old story of Jesus and his love.
You’ve got a story to tell. Are you telling it?
Principle #18 & Personal Application: Quality disciples love to share their testimony with anyone who will listen.
• The disciple of Jesus has a song that rings true: the Lord is merciful.
• The disciple of Jesus desires to reach as many people as possible with the Gospel.
• The disciple of Jesus makes it a life priority to share of the Lord’s faithfulness with others.
Reflect & Respond: Some Really Good Questions To Ponder…
What has Jesus done in my life that I need to share with the lost?
Who needs to hear my testimony this week?
Prayer:
Lord Jesus, by faith, I will sing of Your lovingkindness forever. May I
be able to testify to as many people as possible of your great
faithfulness.

Psalms of Discipleship. Principle #17 (Prayer) May 13, 2013
Hello
dear friends! Today's Psalms of Discipleship is a fresh and timely
reminder of how practical prayer really is for those of us who are tied
up in knots.
Learning with you,
Denny
Psalms of Discipleship—Principle #17
Life Principles For Those Who Choose To Follow Jesus And Live The Discipled Life
Key Scripture: 1 O LORD, the God of my salvation, I have cried out by day and in the night before You. 2 Let my prayer come before You; Incline Your ear to my cry! Psalm 88:1-2
Core Value: Prayer
Knots. Everyone has had them, one time or another. Knots in a drop cord; knots in a shoestring, and sometimes, even knots in a stomach. It’s the knots in the stomach that really get our attention when life becomes much with us. Worry hovers over us. Anxiety seeks to plant its toxic tentacles into our mind. And the knots come, often in bunches. What is a believer to do? When the knots come, we can go to the One who loosens our knots. The procedure is called prayer. The recipient of our prayers is Jesus.
Principle #17 & Personal Application: Quality disciples make prayer the first resort when facing life’s challenges.
• When we pray, we pray to the Lord, the God of our salvation
• When we pray, we pray both day and night
• When we pray, we pray with the expectation that He will hear us and respond
Reflect & Respond: Some Really Good Questions To Ponder…
When I pray, am I usually more concerned about what I need or am I more focused upon Who I need it from?
When is the last time I really connected with the Lord in prayer? What was the experience like?
Prayer:
Lord Jesus, I thank You that You are the God of my salvation. By faith, I will cry out to You both day and night. May my prayer come before You. May You turn Your ear to me and hear my cry.

Psalms of Discipleship. Principle #16 (Evangelism) April 28, 2013
Hello
dear friends. Have you ever been homesick? Today's Psalms of
Discipleship reminds us that we need to keep heaven on our mind and
invite as many people as we can to join us.
On the journey with you,
Denny
Psalms of Discipleship—Principle #16
Life Principles For Those Who Choose To Follow Jesus And Live The Discipled Life
Key Scripture: 1 His foundation is in the holy mountains. 2 The LORD
loves the gates of Zion More than all the other dwelling places of
Jacob. 3 Glorious things are spoken of you, O city of God. Selah. 4 "I
shall mention Rahab and Babylon among those who know Me; Behold,
Philistia and Tyre with Ethiopia: 'This one was born there.' " 5 But of
Zion it shall be said, "This one and that one were born in her"; And the
Most High Himself will establish her. 6 The LORD will count when He
registers the peoples, "This one was born there." Selah. 7 Then those
who sing as well as those who play the flutes shall say, "All my springs
of joy are in you." Psalm 87:1-11
Some Background: This Psalm
has a two-fold meaning. One, it is a prophecy of the future Kingdom
where Jerusalem will be the center of the world. Two, it is a picture of
heaven where every disciple of Jesus has his or her heavenly
citizenship.
Core Value: Evangelism
As believers we
are just passing through. Or are we? There are some of who have fallen
in love with this world and all of its entrapments. We need to be
reminded that the goal of our salvation is not to have the best that
this world can offer, but to keep our eye on the prize and the place:
eternity with the Lover of our soul. This prize is named Jesus and the
place is called heaven.
My friend Pat Terry has captured this thought in a beautiful way when he writes,
They say that heaven's pretty And living here is too But if they said
that I would have to choose between the two I'd go home, going home,
where I belong
And sometimes when I'm dreaming It comes as
no surprise That if you look and see The homesick feeling in my eyes I'm
going home, going home, where I belong [Home Where I Belong by Pat
Terry]
Why do we share the Gospel? We share it so those who are
spiritually homeless will finally be able to go home too . . . where we
all belong.
Principle #16 & Personal Application: Quality
disciples are compelled to share the Gospel so that all may believe and
inhabit Zion (the City of God).
• We need to share with the
lost of a place that is built by God and the only way to enter is
through having a relationship with His Son (vs. 1-3)
• We need to share with the lost of a place where only disciples of Jesus live forever (vs. 4-6)
• We need to share with the lost of a place where everyone who lives
there enjoys the Lord’s abundant and eternal blessings (vs. 7)
Reflect & Respond: Some Really Good Questions To Ponder…
How do I explain the reality of heaven in such a way where a person who
does not know the Lord will want to do whatever it takes to go there?
When I think about going to heaven one day, what kinds of thoughts cross my mind?
Prayer:
Lord Jesus, thank You for a place where I will go when this life on
earth is over. May I have your burden for the lost and bring some of
them with me too.

Psalms of Discipleship. Principle #15 (Grace) April 21, 2013
Hello
my dear friends! Today's Psalms of Discipleship is a reminder of how
powerful the grace of God is for the disciple of Jesus. It not only
saves us but it also empowers us to experience the abundant life of
Jesus.
Living in Amazing Grace,
Denny
Psalms of Discipleship—Principle #15
Life Principles For Those Who Choose To Follow Jesus And Live The Discipled Life
Key Scripture: 11 Teach me Your way, O LORD; I will walk in Your truth;
Unite my heart to fear Your name. 12 I will give thanks to You, O Lord
my God, with all my heart, And will glorify Your name forever. 13 For
Your lovingkindness toward me is great, And You have delivered my soul
from the depths of Sheol. Psalm 86:11-13
Core Value: Grace
Every disciple needs a frequent reality check: without the grace of
Jesus we have no destination other than hell, eternal separation from
the love of God (John 14:6). This is true: when God takes the
initiative, we are able to respond by taking positive steps. Because of
His grace we are able to walk in His truth. When we are walking in truth
there is an even deeper awareness of how great He is. A heart that has
been infused with grace responds in thanksgiving and worship. Grace not
only keeps us out of hell, it empowers us to experience an abundant life
in Him.
Principle #15 & Personal Application: Quality disciples have both a teachable and thankful heart.
• By His grace we are able to learn His way and walk in His truth
• By His grace we are able to fear His name and give thanks to Him with an entire heart
• By His grace we are able to embrace His lovingkindness (mercy) and avoid having to spend eternity without Him
Reflect & Respond: Some Really Good Questions To Ponder…
From my perspective, how is my life impacted when I walk in the Lord’s truth?
In what ways can I cultivate and enhance a thankful heart?
Prayer:
Lord Jesus, I am asking You to teach me Your way as I make a fresh
commitment to walk in Your truth. May I always have a great respect for
the greatness of Your name. By grace, help me to offer thanks to You
with a humble and thankful heart. Thank You for pouring out Your love
and mercy upon me and delivering my soul from a Christ-less eternity.

Psalms of Discipleship. Principle #14 (Worship). April 14, 2013
Hello
my dear friends! Everyone has problems, sometimes, even GREAT ones. The
blessing for the disciple of Jesus is that in spite of our great
problems, we have an even GREATER God. In today's Psalms of
Discipleship, the Psalmist is filled with a heart of worship as he
praises His great God.
He is greatly to be praised!
Learning to worship Him, better,
Denny
Psalms of Discipleship—Principle #14
Life Principles For Those Who Choose To Follow Jesus And Live The Discipled Life
Key Scripture: 8 There is no one like You among the gods, O Lord, Nor
are there any works like Yours. 9 All nations whom You have made shall
come and worship before You, O Lord, And they shall glorify Your name.
10 For You are great and do wondrous deeds; You alone are God. Psalm
86:8-10
Core Value: Worship
Allow me to pose this
personal question to you: are your problems greater than your God?
Before you respond with the “right” answer, give full pause before
answering the question honestly. There are some believers who focus more
upon the greatness of their problem instead of setting their heart upon
the impeccable character and the incredible ways of our Great God.
Here is what I have come to realize: no matter how great is my problem;
He can be greatly trusted to help me through it. The key to
experiencing the greatness of God while undergoing a great problem is to
worship Him greatly. A great God is worthy of great worship!
Principle #14 & Personal Application: Quality disciples are diverse
members of a worldwide body of believers who worship Jesus and glorify
His Name.
• Who is like the Lord? No one
• Who has works like His? No one
• Who will come and worship and glorify Him? Everyone
Reflect & Respond: Some Really Good Questions To Ponder…
What can I do today that will help me set my heart upon the Lord and worship Him?
What kinds of “great and wondrous deeds” has the Lord done in my life recently?
Prayer:
Lord Jesus, there is no one like You among the gods. O Lord, nor are
there any works like Yours. One day from every nation, every knee will
bow and every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord. What a
glorious time that will be where You will receive the worship due to
Your great Name and to Your wondrous deeds. You and You alone are God.

Psalms of Discipleship. Principle #13 (Prayer). Apirl 6, 2013
Hello
my dear friends! On occasion, we can find ourselves facing impossible
circumstances. These impossible events can either become stepping stones
to an even greater faith or the stones that cause even deeper wounds.
By God's grace I am learning to cast my cares upon Him, especially the
ones that are impossible.
Growing with you,
Denny
Psalms of Discipleship—Principle #13
Life Principles For Those Who Choose To Follow Jesus And Live The Discipled Life
Key Scripture: 1 Incline Your ear, O LORD, and answer me; For I am
afflicted and needy. 2 Preserve my soul, for I am a godly man; O You my
God, save Your servant who trusts in You. 3 Be gracious to me, O Lord,
For to You I cry all day long. 4 Make glad the soul of Your servant, For
to You, O Lord, I lift up my soul. 5 For You, Lord, are good, and ready
to forgive, And abundant in lovingkindness to all who call upon You. 6
Give ear, O LORD, to my prayer; And give heed to the voice of my
supplications! 7 In the day of my trouble I shall call upon You, For You
will answer me. Psalm 86:1-7
Core Value: Prayer
"This one is going to take a miracle!” Have you ever allowed these words
to enter your heart and come out of your mouth? Perhaps you were facing
a financial crisis or were emotionally reeling from a severely wounded
relationship that had crashed and burned right in front of you. Maybe
you had lost your way and had no clue on how to get to where you needed
to go. All that you knew was your hope for a good outcome was running on
fumes and at any time you were ready to give in and give up in your
“day of trouble.” When we are in trouble, there is no better time to
offer up our impossible circumstances with impossible prayers to the God
who makes all things possible.
Principle #13 & Personal
Application: Quality disciples present their impossible needs to the
only One who can answer impossible prayers.
• We pray impossible prayers when we are afflicted and needy
• We pray impossible prayers to a God we cannot see but by faith we know He is listening
• We pray impossible prayers when our circumstances are far greater than our ability to fix them
Reflect & Respond: Some Really Good Questions To Ponder…
What impossible prayer am I asking from the Lord?
Has it been my habit to pray prayers that I can answer or have I been praying prayers that will take a miracle?
Prayer:
Lord Jesus, thank You that when I pray, You hear my heart: the words
that are spoken as well as the secret cries stored away in the depths of
my soul. No matter my circumstance, You have promised to answer me.

Psalms of Discipleship. Principle #12 (Evangelism). March 31, 2013
Hello
dear friends! I write this edition of Psalms of Discipleship to you on
Easter morning. As disciples of Jesus we know that the resurrection of
our Lord gives meaning to EVERYTHING we believe and practice. The
resurrection is a stark reminder that our lives do not belong to us but
to Him. Because He lives, we do also. And because He lives in us, we
need to be about the business of reaching out to those who have yet to
embrace the Good News that Jesus loves them too.
He is Risen. He is Risen Indeed!
Denny
Psalms of Discipleship—Principle #12
Life Principles For Those Who Choose To Follow Jesus And Live The Discipled Life
Key Scripture: 9 Surely His salvation is near to those who fear Him,
That glory may dwell in our land. 10 Lovingkindness and truth have met
together; Righteousness and peace have kissed each other. Psalm 85:9-10
Core Value: Evangelism
For the disciple of Jesus, salvation occurs every day. No, I am not
referring to having a daily “born again” experience. Once we receive
God’s gift of Jesus’ atoning sacrifice for our sins, His Spirit seals us
for the day of redemption. We are saved, forever. What I am suggesting
is that there is also a salvation that is a daily sanctification where
Jesus saves us from ourselves every day. Scripture refers to this as
“working out our salvation.”
Here is where many people outside
of the family of God miss it: this kind of work is to occur after the
beginning of eternal life takes place, not before. There are some who
think they can work themselves into a state of salvation by being good
enough, being right enough, being disciplined enough, or being worthy
enough to make it to heaven. It is called the way of works and this way
will never allow a person to have a saving relationship with the One who
is called the Way, the Truth, and the Life. On the other hand, as a
result of responding to His grace and experiencing what the Bible
describes as saving faith, there are others who embrace the teachings of
Jesus and begin to work out their salvation—day by day.
Here
is the take-a-way. Saved people, those who have experienced new life in
Jesus and who are growing in their relationship with Him, seek to reach
out to those who are still trying to work themselves to heaven.
Principle #12 & Personal Application: Quality disciples know how to
share the precious message of the Gospel with those who are in need of
His salvation.
• The good news is that His salvation is near to
those who fear (greatly respect) Him. So, whoever calls upon the Name
of the Lord will be saved.
• The good news is that His
lovingkindness and truth have met together. So, we have a salvation not
based upon a myth and legalism but a salvation based upon love and
truth.
• The good news is that righteousness and peace have
kissed each other. So, we who are saved have been given right standing
before a Holy and Righteous God finding a peace that only comes from
knowing Jesus.
Reflect & Respond: Some Really Good Questions To Ponder…
Who in my inner circle of family and friends need to hear the Gospel from my lips?
Why is the peace of Christ so intimately related to my salvation?
Prayer:
Lord Jesus, because of Your love and grace to me I have experienced
Your salvation. Continue to hold me near to You. I praise You for Your
lovingkindness and truth: they have met together. I thank You that You
have allowed righteousness and peace to have kissed each other, granting
me right standing and peace with You.
